The golf programme offers young golfers a positive environment where they can fully exploit their inherent talent whilst surrounded by and competing with other like-minded young individuals.

The KeNako Programme contributes to preparing young golfers for life as a touring professional golfer.  The programme requires desire, discipline, dedication, daily routine, practice, self-assessment and introspection, all with the support of the KeNako Professionals.

Whilst the technical side of golf is critically important – players require a swing that is proficient and that will stand up under pressure – the physical and mental aspects to a successful career in golf are of equal importance.  Each element of the academy programme is conducted on-site at the excellent KeNako Academy facilities.

The intention of this element of the School Leaver programme is that once the student completes their training time at KeNako Academy, which could be just one year or continue for an extended time (perhaps 3 years), they will be ready to enter and qualify at Tour School.

The golf programme at KeNako is overseen by Roger Wessels, Director of Golf.  Roger was a very respected playing professional who spent 20 years on tour.  He represented South Africa at the World Cup of Golf in 1994 and played for South Africa in the Dunhill Cup together with Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.  Roger won 12 tournaments around the world including the PGA Championship in 1991 and the Canadian Masters in 1994.  During his career Roger played with 9 different world No.1’s!  He has the knowledge and know-how of what it takes to succeed on the professional tours.

First School Leavers Join KeNako Academy in 2014

KeNako Academy enrolled its first two School Leaver Students at the beginning of 2014. On arrival, Jade Buitendag was ranked No.53 in South Africa and Andre Nel was No.89. Within 18 months, both boys had achieved a top 4 ranking and both boys represented South Africa. After 3 years at KeNako Academy Andre attended The Sunshine Tour Qualifying School where he successfully gained his playing card, finishing 8th in the Final Qualifying School.

Andre Nel quote

“I want to be a successful golf professional and a well-rounded individual in all aspects of life. I have loved my time at KeNako.  The insight and direction of both Roger Wessels and Carlo Kok have made a huge difference to my golf and my life. My weekly sessions keep me focused and motivated.  I am so grateful to Roger and Carlo for their professional guidance and there can be no doubt that this has helped me to optimise my game performance.  They are the main reason for my success thus far.  But it’s not just about the golf.  I hit the gym bright and early every morning for about an hour and half and Jan-Harm makes sure that I’m doing things right!  I get to play on the course as often as possible. KeNako Academy has been a life changing experience for me!”

Jade Buitendag quote

“I really value the expertise of KeNako’s golf coaches. I love Roger’s approach to our lessons. He understands the golf swing impeccably, I feel his course management is great and his mental skill on the course is invaluable. Carlo gives us many drills, which I feel are very constructive, and help me get into the position I am working on. I also enjoy the physical fitness that is integral to the academy programme at KeNako. I follow a strict fitness routine and train with KeNako’s Sports Science trainer and fitness expert Jan-Harm Venter four times a week. I really enjoy how he is motivated and stays on track. The fitness programme is beneficial not only to my golf but also to my life and the lives of my fellow students on a broad basis. My time at KeNako has been really great!”
