Breyten and Garen take a Step Up the Ladder

There comes a time in everyone's career when a milestone is reached or a performance produced that is beyond the player's expectations. It is a winning mindset that boosts self confidence and self belief. Great performances are a fantastic reward for all of the time and effort spent practicing and provide the motivation and the focus to keep on practicing and improving. Two of KeNako's students (Breyten Meyer and Garen Niemand) had a wonderful tournament at Kingswood Golf Estate this past Sunday where conditions weren't ideal for good scoring but they found their groove and produced two outstanding performances.Read more

KeNako Annual Awards

The annual KeNako Academy awards took place on Saturday 29th October 2011. Many parents travelled down to George to join the students for this special evening function, including Rajeev Mediratta, who travelled all the way from Kenya. It was excellent having all of the parents at KeNako and their effort in travelling down to George is much appreciated. In years to come the Awards Evening will become one of KeNako's major annual events and the academy looks forward to having ex-students join us at this annual event. The KeNako Annual Awards are in recognition of performance, improvement and diligence in the KeNako Golf, Skills for Life, Academic and English programs. The evening started with some welcome drinks for the adults followed by the awards ceremony in the auditorium. Read more

gh201191910171.jpgSOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The SA Boys u.12 event is a relatively new golfing event on the South African golfing calendar, played for the first time in 2006. A decision was taken in 2010 to move the tournament to a different venue and the KeNako Academy in George came forward as a sponsor to host the event, making the choice of the Southern Cape as host province for 2011 an easy one.Read more

Another good result for Breyten

Breyten Meyer has been involved with the Academy from the beginning, first as a school student and now as a post school graduate and while his game showed consistent improvement when he was at school it is progressing in leaps and bounds now that he has finished and is devoting more time to the game. His tournament results this year have provided motivation success breeds success to keep up the good work he is doing on the range and a lull in the tournament schedule has given him the opportunity to improve his physicalconditioning at Kenako...Read more

Kyle Barker Wins SWD Primary School Championships

KeNako Academys youngest student Kyle Barker had a fantastic win at Oubaai at the end of May.  9 Schools from the SWD Region sent a team to play in the SWD Primary Schools Championship qualifier.  Each team was represented by four players.  The boys represented the best junior school players in the Southern Cape region including most of the Southern Cape U12 team.  Kyle, who is a Grade 7 student at Glenwood House School and who joined the KeNako Academy student programme at the beginning of 2011, played an outstanding one over par gross score from the mens tees for the 9 hole competition and was the Overall Individual Winner.  Kyle is from Johannesburg and was an excellent all round sportsman, but decided at his young age that golf is his passion.  He is making excellent progress at KeNako and he is a boy with a bright future.  Well played Kyle!

AWonderful win

There is nothing like a win to boost your confidence and provide one with the hunger for more success, a young professional by the name of Derick Petersen won his maiden tour victory this past week, very exciting and rewarding for Derick and the KeNako Team. Derick started working with KeNako in February this year after a few frustrating years where his career had stalled and he was beginning to have doubts about his ability to make it as a tour player.
Derick is a promising player with immense talent and from a KeNako point of view it has been a matter of showing him how to harness that talent through constructive practice on the range, in the gym and applying the correct mental skills. Derick had to address his course management skills as well and the improvements in this area are evident in his win. He is now on top of the Big Easy Tour order of merit and has a very good chance of remaining on there through his new found discipline and work ethic.
We have all enjoyed working with Derick these past few months and see no reason why he cannot achieve the goals he has set himself with his determination and application.
Good luck Derick and keep up the hard work.

Roger Wessels.
Director of Coaching.

Success breeds Success

28 South Africans have now won a tournament on the European Tour after Thomas Aikens win in the Spanish Open astounding for a country the size of South Africa. His win has been a long time coming but it follows on the enormous success South Africans have had over the past year - Ernie Els, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Rory Sabbatini and Thomas have all won in the current season and Tim Clark won the so called 5th Major last year. The younger guys are certainly feeding off each other realising that if their mate can win then perhaps they can as well.Read more
