KeNako’s just completed Holiday Camp was once again a huge success and great fun!  The biggest group yet attended the Holiday Camp, with a total 20 students between the ages of 10 and 17 attending.  Boys and girls from many regions of South Africa travelled to George to enjoy the Camp offering.

Whilst the KeNako Holiday Camps are built around golf, the participants get to enjoy many different and varied experiences.  For the golf related program, the students were split into 2 groups of 10 for the coaching sessions, alternating between golf coaching and physical conditioning.

What a privilege it was for the students to experience coaching from an experienced and dedicated tour professional like Roger Wessels!  Each students’ golf swing was assessed by video analysis and they were then given feedback on what to work on.  Roger and Carlo Kok spent time with students on the course to help them with course management.  The Camp included 3 rounds of 18 holes at Mossel Bay, George and Kingswood Golf Clubs, as well as another 9 holes at George.  Roger also did a short game clinic, after which the students could test their own ability in a chip-and-putt competition.

In the gym, they were taught by KeNako’s Biokineticist Jan Fourie how to set up a training program for maintaining a good balance in one’s physical development.  The students also learned about good posture and technique when training in the gym.  They even got exposed to our skills development games!  The aim of these games is firstly to bring some fun into coaching, but also to help the KeNako professionals to identify weaknesses in students’ neuro-muscular development and skills, and then to improve on them.

Apart from all the coaching and instruction, students enjoyed chilling out by the pool or in the lounge paying table tennis and pool or board games.  A game of Ten-Pin Bowling provided a good break and a lot of fun and laughter.  For some, the toughest day of the Camp was the Coasteering.  Paradise Adventures facilitated this wonderful morning along the Southern Cape coast which included abseiling, bouldering, jumping off rocks and swimming in a natural ocean pool between the rocks.  It was a first for many doing things like these and many had to overcome their fear of heights!

As usual, KeNako’s chef Rob Douglas and his team prepared amazing meals and desserts for the week.  The students also learned something about cooking when they had to prepare their own lunch on one of the days.

The KeNako staff had just as much fun as the students themselves and everybody is already looking forward to the next group of enthusiastic students attending the next KeNako Holiday Camp in April 2013!
