Junior golf in the province had a busy schedule this past weekend. It started on Friday with the last few rounds of the Junior Match Play Tournament, one of the major Southern Cape junior events on the annual junior golf calendar. The final rounds of the Junior Match Play Tournament were played at the wonderful Fancourt Links Golf Course – a truly world class venue! The boys felt excited and very privileged to have the opportunity of playing at The Links. A note of thanks and congratulations must go to Stephen Murray (President of Junior Golf Southern Cape) for arranging the venue. The juniors in the Southern Cape are really spoilt for choice and get to play Plettenberg Bay Golf Course, Goose Valley, Simola, Pezula, Knysna, George, Fancourt, Oubaai, Kingswood, Pinnacle Point, Mossel Bay and a few more during the course of the year – there is probably no finer place in the world to grow up playing the game of golf.
Four KeNako students; Johan Oosthuizen, Franklin Manchest, Eric Park and Cameron Moralee contested the quarter finals on Friday. Franklin Manchest and Cameron Moralee made it through to the Semi Finals where Franklin lost to Jovan Rebula and Cameron beat Riaan Grootboom on Saturday morning. A much anticipated Saturday afternoon final between two of South Africa’s top juniors saw Cameron win the match two up – another great result for a very talented youngster.
Cameron’s game has stepped up a notch in recent weeks and he is well and truly over the injury that he sustained earlier in the year. This was an excellent win in a tough competition – well played Cameron!
