The Ernie Els SA Primary Schools Championship was recently played for the first time at the scenic Oubaai Golf Club near George.  A total of 19 primary schools participated in this prestigious event that was played in perfect golfing conditions.  Despite recent heavy rains in the Southern Cape, Oubaai was in great condition. The tournament format was 45 holes of strokeplay with teams of 4 having 3 scores counting for every 9 holes completed.  The tournament comprised a Championship Division as well a Combined Schools Division.  One of KeNako’s youngest students, 12 year old Bradley de Beer, was in the Glenwood House ‘A’ team that qualified to play in the Championship Division.  The Glenwood House A team led from start to finish, leading by a slender 3 shots after the first round but extending their lead each round, ultimately winning by a comfortable 15 shots. They were followed by the 2011 champions, Anton van Wouw (Gauteng North), with Kwazulu Natal’s Umhlanga College in 3rd place.

Most of KeNako’s students attend senior school so it was wonderful to see young Bradley, who still attends junior school, playing a role in the team victory.  Congratulations to the Glenwood House Prep School Team on their fine victory.  When Bradley joined KeNako Academy at the beginning of this year his handicap was 17 and he has shown considerable improvement in the 7 months that he has been at KeNako, improving to his current 7 handicap.
