Sunday 14th April saw the first of the official Southern Cape Order of Merit tournaments for the second term being played at Kingswood Golf course.  The KeNako Junior Series tournament was played in beautiful weather.  One of the highlights of the day was seeing not only the KeNako students but also the Louis Oosthuizen Foundation students proudly playing in their special golf uniforms!

15 Year Old Aidan Boon, winner KeNako Junior Series April 2013 played at Kingswood

Aidan Boon won the second tournament of his career, scoring a one under par 71.  Aidan played the easier front nine at Kingswood in level par but then excelled on the tougher back nine.  He has recently endured a few tough rounds so it is good to see him playing well again.  Fellow KeNako student Garen Niemand continued his excellent form of 2013, tieing with Aidan at one under par 71 but losing on a count back.  Garen is in his final year of school and it is very rewarding to see him playing consistently well, especially since he has many responsibilities outside of the academy program resulting in his training time being somewhat limited.  The 3 years that Garen has spent at KeNako have played a huge role in Garen’s development and the rewards of his many hours of effort are there for all to see.

Young Christo Lamprecht who is still officially in the under 13 division scored an outstanding 74 to finish in 3rd place in the A Division.  Christo has decided to focus on competing in the Open Divisions, playing off the Men’s Tees; he is a boy to watch in the coming years.  Bradley de Beer, who spent a year at the KeNako Academy in 2012, won the Best Nett prize in the A Division, scoring 78 off his 8 handicap for a nett 70.  Bradley is now 13 years old.  Winner of the B Division Nett prize was Edward Jacobs, who scored 83 off his 14 handicap for a nett 69.  In the Under 13 Division, which is played off the Ladies Tees, Christiaan Jacobs won with an outstanding score of 43 individual points.

As always, special thanks are due to Kingswood Golf Club for their continued generosity in opening up their course for the junior competitions.  Kingswood is a very good test of golf, with very penal and deep links type bunkers a feature of the course.
